Mission Statement

·  To strive to create opportunities for women and girls’ growth and empowerment; to strengthen  families; to eliminate racism; to attain a common vision: peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people.

 

Meetings, Programs, & Services

·  A Pre-School Kid Biz; Young Entrepreneuers; Toddler Camp; Holiday Childcare; Summer Day Camp; Spring Break Childcare; and extended childcare at two Erie County locations.  Saturday Activity programs.

·  Events and  Recreation Programs: Diaper Derby; Winterwalk festivities; Women’s low impact aerobics; Piano Lessons; Cooking Classes; Tae Kwon Do; Parenting classes for Adults and Teens; a variety of Health Related Workshops and Presentations; Family Fun Nights; Dog Obedience Classes; Tai Chi; Red Cross Babysitting; Childcare Training; Yoga Beginner and Advanced Yoga.

·  Domestice Violence Counseling (no fee); Domestice Violence support groups (no fee); Childcare for group members while attending sessions.

·  Girl Scout “Stay Safe” Program. Princess Program-building healthy relationships

·  Food Pantry.

·  Clothing Closet with Health & Beauty supplies and a Baby Closet with diaper supplies.

·  Monitored Exchange Program for separated parents who have difficulties when exchanging their children for visitation by non-custodial parent.

·  Supervised Family Visitation Program for court ordered supervised visits.

·  Domestic Violence Advocate in the City of Tonawanda Police Station.

·  Court, Social Service & Law Enforcement Advocacy.

·  Facilities include: full kitchen, dining room and living room with additonal meeting rooms, and a newly remodeled gym facility available for rental to outside groups or families for special occasions (sports, practice groups, parties etc.)

·  Domestic Violence Scholarship program

Members and Criteria

·  YWCA membership is open to women and girls : $25 for women, $20 for senior women 60+, $15 for youth (6-15).

·  Men are able to become Associates $25.

·  Children under 6 may participate under parent membership status.

·  A women's membership committed to the empowerment of women and girls, as well as the  eliminatation of racism.

 

Meetings, Programs, & Services

·  Largest area NYS licensed Child Care provider with five Early Childhood Centers, as well as drop- in child care sites at Family, County, State, and Supreme Court; Amy's Room (ECMC); and  Dylan's Room (Children's Hospital); Extended Day Child Care programs at 39 sites through out  Erie County; YWCA Summer/Holiday Child Care; and Youth Academic/Enrichment Program; Gibson St. Food Service Training Program. 

·  Events and programs include: Racial Justice Instititutes; Institute for Public Leadership non- partisan; political training for women; YWCA Week Without Violence; Womanworks-cable access television show; Leader Luncheon; Candidates Nights and School Board Training; Women  Leaders in Progress Institute.

·  Committes include: Racial Justice; Public Leadership Alumnae Network (PLAN); Public Policy and Leadership Development; Women Leaders in Progress Institute.

·  Housing programs include: YWCA Adult Care Residence; Transitional Housing programs; and Schoolhouse Commons low-income housing for seniors. Fitness classes and facilities; gym and pool at Franklin St. site. The gym and pool can be rented for special events.

·  All sites handicapped accessible.

National Affiliation

·  YWCA of the United States and the International World YWCA.
