May - Donation of the Month

Project Flight’s” Books for Kids” program has partnered with Hispanic Heritage Council of Western New York Inc. since 2014 and has donated over 13,088 books. This year will be the Hispanic Heritage Council of Western New York's 15th year participating in the event. The Books for Kids program is so important to us because we rely on these books to make our Day of Child Program a success. It allows us to provide books to the students in the program and ensure that they receive a book and learn in a literacy-enriched environment in their schools. We have coordinated with 15 Buffalo Public Schools and over 10,000 students. This event highlights education, literacy, and connecting students to books. This year, the event will be at BPS 30 Frank A. Sedita on April 30th as we celebrate the Day of the Child.
This event has been celebrated in the USA since 1997 to support and promote literacy, books, language, and culture. The books we receive from Project Flight make this nationwide program a huge success in Western New York schools. The ability for school children to receive the gift of a book and expand classroom libraries increases the success of children reading at their grade level. Project Flight's donation of books has profoundly affected the success of promoting literacy in the Buffalo Public Schools District. Every school we touch with this program has had a fantastic impact on the children who are given a book and have access to books to increase the success of literacy proficiency. We are grateful to Project Flight and their program, Books for Kids, for helping us make these goals possible through the past eleven years.
